Vintage 1960s silver tone Sphinx brooch. Stunning clear rhinestone brooch with layered round and marquise set diamante stones with diamante encrusted crescent moons. The brooch is in excellent vintage condition, measuring 6.5cm / 2.5" in diameter and 5cm / 1.9" in width and 0.5cm / 0.2" in depth. The piece is signed on the underside of the brooch 'SPHNIX'.
ABOUT THE DESIGNER
Sphinx was founded by S. Root in 1948 Chiswick, England.The company employed 200-300 people making high-quality jewellery. The pieces were beautifully designed and renowned in many cases to look real. They produced necklaces, bracelets, pendants, brooches, earrings and charms, made in silver and gold tone metals. The jewellery designs include the use of coloured and aurora borealis stones together with simulated pearls. In addition to their own jewellery collection, Sphinx produced jewellery for the higher end companies and department stores including, Kenneth J. Lane. Butler and Wilson, Marks and Spencer, Saks 5th Avenue and Bloomingdales. Sphinx ceased trading in 2000 and is highly collectable today.
